This expression was aged for 6 years and finished for no less than 6 months in a specially coopered 50-litre hybrid sherry cask, combining Pedro Ximénez (PX) and Oloroso sherry cask influences.

Bottled at 55.9% ABV, this is a particularly interesting release for collectors of heavily peated Islay whisky and unusual sherry-finished single malts.

Description

DARKNESS! is known for its distinctive approach to sherry cask finishing, using small, specially constructed casks to increase contact between the whisky and the wood.

For this Port Charlotte release, a hybrid cask combining Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry influences was constructed at just one tenth the size of a standard 500-litre butt.

The increased wood-contact ratio is designed to deliver a particularly concentrated sherry cask influence.

The combination of Port Charlotte's heavily peated Islay character and the rich influence of the specially coopered sherry cask makes this a noteworthy expression.

This bottle is individually numbered 76 of only 100 bottles, adding further appeal for collectors of limited-edition Scotch whisky.

Condition

The bottle and main labels appear generally well preserved, with the front and back labels clearly legible.

The liquid level appears high, around the shoulder area.

A Japanese import label is attached to the back of the bottle.

No presentation box is shown or included.

Please examine all photographs carefully, especially the wax-covered closure.
